Measuring and Wearing your Sling
The Coorie is a non adjustable pouch sling and getting the correct size is vital for your comfort and your baby’s safety.
A well fitted pouch sling will hold your baby between your chest and your navel.
We are happy to help you find the right fit and encourage customers to email us if they are unsure. It is really helpful if you can send a picture so we can have a look at your pouch in action. We also have Skype and are happy to communicate this way!
How to measure –
To find out which size you should order, measure from your left shoulder to the top of your right hip (the VERY top of your hip!) passing the tape measure diagonally across your front. Match your measurement to the table below and you will see which size you need.
Adult Slings:
1: Extra Small: 51 - 55cm (20-22 inches)
2: Small : 56 - 61cm (22-24 inches)
3: Medium: 62 - 66cm (24-26 inches)
4: Large : 67 - 71cm (26-28 inches)
5: Extra Large : 72 – 77cm (28-30 inches)
We understand that many of our customers order their sling prior to their baby’s birth and measuring with a bump in the way is not the easiest thing to do! We would recommend that pregnant ladies measure across their back. We are happy to extend our exchange period for unused carriers if you let us know when ordering.
Carrying Positions
Your Coorie Fleece Pouch Sling will be supplied with a full colour instruction booklet. This has step by step instructions for Cradle Carry, Tummy to Tummy, Kangaroo Carry, Tummy to Tummy 2, Hip Carry. While it is entirely possible, we do not recommend back carrying with a Coorie.
To Wear your Pouch sling

You will find that your sling is sent to you folded widthwise, this is how it should be before you start to put it on.
Pass one arm and your head through the sling so that the fabric rests on one shoulder. The open edges of the sling should be towards your neck with the folded edge against your shoulder. Your sling should now be sitting diagonally across your chest and back (like a Miss World sash!)
Turn your sling so that curved section with the seam is sitting over your stomach; this is the part your baby will sit in.
Open the sewn edges of the pouch so that you can slip your baby inside. Make sure that the fabric on your shoulder and across your back is smooth as this will help to spread your baby’s weight. By keeping the fabric over the ball of your shoulder you should not feel any discomfort or strain.
You are now ready to go! Please make sure that your baby is safe before you set off. I choose durable fabrics to make my slings, but your baby’s safety is your responsibility so please check seams and fabric for wear regularly.
Carrying Positions
Newborn
Cradle Position
With the sling in place over your shoulder, cradle your baby in your arms. Pull open the pouch of the sling by pulling the outermost seam away from you. Slip your baby inside the pouch keeping his bottom deep in the middle of the pouch and plenty fabric on each side of him. Most babies will be comfortable with their heads on the same side as you are wearing the sling (ie. The shoulder covered in fabric) Do not allow the fabric to cover the baby completely as this may result in him getting too hot.
Tummy to Tummy
With the sling in place over your shoulder, hold your baby high up on the other shoulder. Pull open the pouch of the sling by pulling the outermost seam away from you. Keeping your baby upright, slip him inside so that he is sitting cross-legged or with his legs in a crouching "froglike" position in the bottom of the pouch. Please ensure that the fabric round his back is pulled right up to support his head and neck. This position is great for babies with colic or babies who don’t like to lie down.
Once your child can sit supported
Kangaroo Position
With the sling in place over your shoulder, hold your baby, facing outwards, around his middle. Pull open the pouch of the sling by pulling the outermost seam away from you. Keeping your baby upright and facing outwards, slip him inside so that he is sitting cross-legged in the bottom of the pouch. Please ensure that the fabric is pulled well up to his chest in front and right up to his shoulders behind. This position is loved by nosey-parkers!!
Tummy to Tummy (2)
With the sling in place over your shoulder, hold your baby high up on the other shoulder. Pull open the pouch of the sling by pulling the outermost seam away from you. Keeping your baby upright, slip him inside and tuck the inner seam of the pouch behind his knees so his bottom is deep in the pouch and is lower than his legs which are dangling free. Pull the fabric of the pouch up around his shoulders. This is a great position for sleepy babies.
Toddlers
Hip Carry
With the sling in place over your shoulder, hold your baby high up on the other shoulder. Pull open the pouch of the sling by pulling the outermost seam away from you.
Keeping your baby upright, slip him inside onto your hip and tuck the inner seam of the pouch behind his knees ensuring that his bottom is deep within the pouch. The curve of the pouch should be over your hip and right up the middle of your baby’s back. Pull the fabric of the pouch up around his shoulders.
